Need
In August 2023, the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century devastated Maui, particularly the historic town of Lahaina. With 102 lives lost and widespread destruction, FEMA required urgent airlift services to move teams, equipment, and critical supplies from across the United States to Kahului Airport.
Solution
Momentum quickly mobilized a fleet of Boeing 767F aircraft and ground support teams to transport emergency response units from key U.S. mainland airports, including Indianapolis, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Seattle, to Maui. Our operations experts played a vital role, overseeing cargo manifest preparation, air waybill drafting, dangerous goods paperwork, and aircraft loading. In addition, the team assisted with pallet building, labeling, and the careful securing of equipment for unloading at Kahului Airport (OGG).
Momentum’s involvement extended beyond airlift coordination. We also sourced and managed overland trucking from FEMA warehouses to airport locations. With on-the-ground support at OGG, Momentum ensured that FEMA’s urgent response personnel, supplies and equipment reached Maui swiftly to aid in the island’s recovery during a time of crisis.
